Sustainable ways. Resilient outcomes. Thriving tomorrows.
A few weeks back, on Earth Day, Groundwork finished out its 29th year of bringing sustainable ways and resilient outcomes to this beautiful state in the heart of our Great Lakes.
I know people can feel uneasy when their next birthday is the BIG THREE-OH, but as our team—supporters, board, partners and staff—looks ahead to Groundwork’s future, we simply can’t wait to blow out those 30 candles come next Earth Day.
We can’t wait because the working principles that we honed with you over the course of those decades are today proving both practical and visionary in equal measure, and the result is a set of strikingly effective teams and programs that have a very bright future. The Food & Farming team is spreading local food systems down the whole west side of the state. The Transportation & Community Design team will soon be planning with a dozen communities all along the proposed north-south passenger rail route. The Climate & Environment team is working to expand clean energy infrastructure in rural northern Michigan while also upping the public pressure to shut down Line 5. The 10 Cents a Meal team is working ceaselessly to keep funding for local food in schools statewide. And there’s so much, much more.
Of course, none of this would happen without the support of individual donors like you. In fact, every program I just mentioned began with a gift from an individual donor. And that donation began with a shared belief that a better world is possible.
Today we are asking for your support to continue this mission of bringing sustainable and resilience-building ways to how we grow and consume food, create and use energy, and shape livable, walkable communities. Please join us today in making our communities stronger.
Thank you for walking with us on this remarkable journey,
Hans Voss
Executive Director
PS Your gift today will help create sustainable solutions in local food, clean energy and livable, walkable towns across the state. Thank you for making our corner of the world brighter.
