We’ve just come through the holidays, a time when many of us were figuring out how to get to family gatherings, watching the weather forecast closely, and wondering if snowstorms might force a last-minute change of plans. It’s a familiar conversation for those of us living in Michigan: Do we drive? Should we leave early? What if the roads get bad?
Moments like these remind me of how helpful a reliable passenger train could be. A train that connects our state from North to South could take some of the stress out of travel and keep families connected, no matter the weather.
To make passenger rail in Mid- and Northern Michigan a reality, the project team continues to work through a major planning study for the route this year, and Groundwork recently launched a community input survey and a new website for the North+South Rail Project.
Help shape the future of passenger rail in Michigan, take the survey!
As we are working through a major planning study for the route this year, we want to hear from you, the the people of our communities! Taking the survey will help us better understand travel needs, preferences, and priorities, ensuring that this service is designed for those who will be using it.
New Website Now Live
We’ve also launched a dedicated North+South Rail website (northsouthrail.org) that will be your central hub for everything related to the project. On the site, you’ll find:
- An overview of the rail project and its goals
- Details about the ongoing planning study
- Maps and background documents
- Opportunities to stay engaged and receive updates
The site will continue to grow as the project moves forward.
Thank you for helping us imagine, and plan for, a more connected Michigan.
