Tell President Biden to
shut down line 5!
Line 5 is a disaster waiting to happen. The old oil pipeline has a frighteningly outdated and vulnerable design that would never be considered legitimate today, yet the pipeline's owner, Enbridge, is trusting it to protect Michigan's most cherished natural resource. The pipeline grinds back and forth in the powerful currents of the Mackinac Straits while it operates 20 years past its 50-year design-life. Each day we wait to shut down the pipeline we are one day closer to oil-coated fish and dead birds washing up on blackened shores of the globally rare Great Lakes.
President Biden can revoke the pipeline's Presidential Permit, and we are asking you to urge Michigan's U.S. Senators to pressure the president to revoke the permit immediately. Independent analysts—including experts hired by Enbridge—have shown that after Line 5 shuts down, gas prices will rise barely one cent. Yet what's beyond measure is the economic security and environmental peace of mind provided by removing an untrustworthy pipeline that would be ridiculed if proposed today, in the 21st century.
