Groundwork is pleased to welcome Meghan McDermott to the staff as a food and farming policy specialist. Meghan, who was previously a FoodCorps service member hosted by Groundwork, will co-manage the organizations’ farm to school program.
Groundwork’s new policy specialist to focus on solar development
Dan Worth will work with homeowners, businesses, colleges, schools, nonprofits, elected officials, installers, and the state’s utilities to find cost-effective solutions for putting new solar panels on rooftops, roadsides-anywhere the sun is shining.
Event (5/19): Become a Citizen Climate Advocate
On the evening May 19 at 6 p.m. in MLUI’s large conference room, Lisa Del Buono will speak on behalf of the Citizens Climate Lobby about that group’s advocacy for a national “fee & dividend” on carbon emissions (also described as a ‘carbon tax’).
MLUI is now the Groundwork Center
The Michigan Land Use Institute is now the Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities. The nonprofit advocacy center celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 13 with a standing-room only event at the Franklin restaurant in downtown Traverse City-and kicked off its future with the new name.
Pipeline secrecy bill puts Great Lakes at risk
Citizens groups, including the Groundwork Center, sharply criticized proposed legislation introduced today that would permanently block public access to pipeline safety records in Michigan, including for high-risk pipelines running through the Straits of Mackinac operated by the controversial Canadian oil conglomerate Enbridge, Inc.
